How to correctly restart VMware View environment
Many VMware View-related problems occur due to poor communication between View components. The missing link between View Composer server and vCenter Server or View Composer and View Connection Server. It is important to start the View environment in the correct order to ensure smooth and stable drift.
If View Composer server is installed on the vCenter server:
1. Shut down all View Connection/Security servers. Note that servers must be powered down and not just rebooted.
2. When all View Connection/Security servers are powered down, restart the vCenter server. Log in to Windows and ensure that both VMware VirtualCenter Server and VMware View Composer services are started
3. Start View Connection servers, one at the time. Wait for the Windows logon to appear before proceeding with the next server. Note that the order in which you start View Connection servers doesn’t matter.
4. Start View Security servers, if these are used in your environment.
If View Composer server is installed on a standalone server:
1. Shut down all View Connection/Security servers. Note that servers must be powered down and not just rebooted.
2. When all View Connection/security servers are powered down, shut down the View Composer server. Note that the server needs to be powered down, not just rebooted.
3. Reboot vCenter server. Log in to Windows and ensure that VMware VirtualCenter Server service is started before proceeding.
4. Start View Composer server. Log into Windows and ensure that VMware View Composer service is started before proceeding.
5. Start View Connection servers, one at the time. Wait for the Windows logon screen to appear before proceeding with the next server. Note that the order in which you start View Connection servers doesn’t matter.
6. Start View Security servers, if these are used in your environment.
Note that all View Connection servers MUST be started before you can use the View Administrator portal. View Administrator portal is not shown until all View Connection servers are started as part of the normal behavior.
